Diversity and inclusion are about giving value to every human being no matter our differences.

Candidate Forums

Don't forget election day is November 2! Before you fill out your ballot, be sure to check out the recordings of our candidate forums. We invited all of the city council candidates for Farmington Hills and Farmington, respectively, to answer some questions about how they view their role in fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in our communities. We asked questions like:

  1. Why are you running for a seat on the city council? Describe what your top two priorities are for city council.

  2. How would you, as an elected leader, work to understand a wide variety of perspectives of how city policies, both current and proposed, impact different groups?

  3. How would you, as a city leader, work to engage both residents of color and white residents to understand the way policies historically and currently impact each racial and ethnic group?

  4. Please explain your views on systemic racism.

  5. How would you as a leader engage the private sector to advance equity here?

  6. How would you, as an elected leader, engage with active community organizations on issues related to equity?

  7. Can you think of a policy at the local level that has inadvertently created inequity in our area?

  8. Are you willing to support the use of operating metrics that enable policymakers, decision makers and city staff at every level to understand how their decisions impact equity?

community!
